LAUREE AD HONOREM: VIDEO PORTRAITS
- Year: 2009
- Project manager: Marisa Galbiati, Francesco Galli
Lauree ad Honorem (Honorary Degrees) are a special degree awarded by Politecnico di Milan to professionals working in the public and private sectors, in recognition of their experience and expertise in the fields of Architecture, Design and Engineering.
The degree is conferred during a ceremony in which the Dean of the Faculty introduces the candidate and explains the reasons for them receiving the award. This is followed by the Ludatio, given by a professor of the university, which gives an account of the personal profile and activities for which the person is awarded the honorary degree. Then the candidate is invited to deliver the Lectio, an academic lecture, to a committee of teachers who are experts and knowledgeable in the subject. Then the Chancellor bestows the title and honorary degree to the recipient.
Recently, the Politecnico introduced the projection of a video portrait into the Lauree ad Honorem ceremony, in order to present the complexity of the academic and human characteristics of the candidate.
Therefore, the video portraits show the honorary graduate in his or her living and work spaces, emphasizing those aspects of the person that cannot be depicted simply through a written account. Each video portrait has its own unique language and style, relevant to the person interviewed, in order to respect the singularity of each identity.
