Desis in the mirror
- Year: 2013-2015
- Project manager: Francesca Piredda con Elisa Bertolotti, Federica D’Urzo, Simona Venditti
- Partners: DESIS Network
DESIS in the Mirror is a research project created to reflect on the practices of audiovisual production within the DESIS network. The members of DESIS Lab are designers who are almost entirely involved in projects related to social innovation and sustainability. With a very few exceptions, none are professional filmmakers. Yet, the need to explore, document, share, shape scenarios and promote social dialogue has led to many video productions materializing from these laboratories.
Through video interviews via the web, members of the DESIS Lab used their experiences in video production to have virtual dialogues with filmmakers and artists who, despite their different backgrounds and perspectives, shared a similar understanding of how they view and represent realities.
Thirteen video interviews were conducted with DESIS members as well as with independent filmmakers from China to South Africa, from France to Brazil. The interviewees were asked to relate their experiences in developing audiovisual artifacts and their thoughts on the relationship between social innovation, storytelling and video.
